Sound Safety — Chromic Audio
Safe listening
- Keep your volume at a moderate level, especially with earphones.
- Listening at high volume for a long time can affect your hearing. Take breaks.
- Chromic Audio's warnings and risk indicators are reference guidance, not medical advice.
DSP settings and output level
- EQ boost, device presets, WiseAudio, Musical Auto, crossover, compressor makeup gain, and master gain can raise the output signal level.
- Combined boost settings can raise the level further — be mindful of combined effects.
- The limiter protects the final output stage; it does not remove the risk of excessive boost.
Status indicators
Chromic Audio's listening states are presented as reference risk indicators: NORMAL · LOW · CAUTION · HIGH · CRITICAL. A state is never conveyed by color alone — a text label always accompanies the color. These indicators are reference guidance only; the app does not automatically reduce gain or apply forced limiting in risk states.
When to stop listening
- Stop listening immediately if you feel discomfort, pain, tinnitus (ringing), muffled hearing, or any hearing symptom.
- Consult a health professional if symptoms persist.
Chromic Audio is not a medical device
The app's personalization features (hearing-response test, device-response measurement) are reference features for personal listening optimization. They do not replace hearing tests, medical diagnosis, or treatment, and are not a hearing-aid replacement.
On safety guarantees
We do not claim to "prevent hearing damage" or "guarantee safe listening." Hearing safety is your right and responsibility; we provide risk indicators and safety information to support your choices.
First-launch notice
On first launch the app shows a lightweight, non-blocking hearing-safety notice once. It does not repeat on every launch and remains accessible in Settings/Safety.
